National Citizens Party (NCP) Senior Joint Chief Coordinator and Noakhali-6 MP Abdul Hannan Masud has strongly criticized the ruling political process and the BNP, alleging manipulation of ordinances and lack of accountability in parliament.
Speaking at a national convention on energy, economic reform, and referendum issues held at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Dhaka, he accused the BNP of turning favorable ordinances into law for political advantage.
He said:
“The ordinances that felt sweet to BNP and seemed to open the path to power were turned into laws by them.”
“Parliament of Deception and Fraud” Allegation
Hannan Masud further questioned the legitimacy of the current parliamentary process, stating:
“It seems to me that this is a parliament of deception and fraud.”
He added that after the July uprising, despite major reform proposals and consensus discussions, the parliament has not delivered meaningful outcomes.
Criticism Over Policy Reversals
He also alleged that the government has revoked several ordinances from the interim period that were meant to ensure accountability.
Referring to sensitive issues like enforced disappearances, he said a narrative is being created where certain actors are positioned as victims, limiting public discussion on accountability mechanisms.
Questions to BNP
Addressing the BNP, he said that the party did not clearly state its position during earlier referendum discussions.
He said:
“Even rickshaw pullers say BNP has deceived people. CNG drivers say the same.”
He argued that had BNP openly opposed the referendum questions earlier, their electoral support would have been clearer.
