Bangladesh Dengue Death Toll Rises to 139 as Cases Cross 36,000

Dengue Outbreak Continues in Dhaka

Bangladesh’s struggle with dengue continues as two more people died in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 139 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Both fatalities were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

During the same period, 625 new patients were hospitalised with the mosquito-borne viral fever, bringing the total number of reported cases to 36,096 in 2025.

  • Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC): 130
  • Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC): 87
  • Dhaka Division (outside CC): 114
  • Chattogram Division (outside CC): 112
  • Barishal Division (outside CC): 96
  • Rajshahi Division (outside CC): 37
  • Khulna Division (outside CC): 17
  • Mymensingh Division (outside CC): 15
  • Rangpur Division (outside CC): 14
  • Sylhet Division (outside CC): 3

Currently, 1,821 dengue patients are under treatment in hospitals across the country.

Year-on-Year Comparison

Last year, Bangladesh saw its worst dengue outbreak on record, with 575 deaths and over 101,000 cases. While this year’s official death toll remains lower so far, health experts are warning that the infection rate remains concerning.

Authorities have urged city corporations and local administrations to intensify mosquito control measures as the peak transmission season continues.
