A dramatic incident unfolded in Sitakunda on Friday afternoon when suspected drug dealers abandoned a large quantity of yaba tablets on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway while fleeing from locals. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM in the Nunachhara area of Sitakunda municipality, leaving thousands of tablets scattered across the busy road.
Eyewitness Accounts
Witnesses reported that two men stopped their motorcycles near the highway and began arguing. Locals, suspicious of their behavior, approached them. As residents moved closer, the men fled, leaving behind several blue plastic-wrapped packets. Soon after, thousands of yaba tablets were found strewn across the road.
Resident Mohammad Jony said: “Around noon we saw thousands of yaba tablets scattered on the highway. Later, we collected 10–12 packets wrapped in blue plastic and about a hundred tablets from the road and handed them over to Sitakunda police.”
Another individual, requesting anonymity, stated that he personally picked up 200–300 tablets and handed them to police. He added that many tablets were crushed under the wheels of passing vehicles.
Police Recovery
Sub-Inspector (SI) Anik of Sitakunda Model Police Station confirmed: “We recovered approximately 100–150 intact yaba tablets and about 100 grams of yaba powder from the scene.”
Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Alamgir said initial findings suggest the traffickers abandoned the drugs fearing law enforcement presence or pursuit. He added: “We are investigating to identify those involved, and legal action will be taken.”
