The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive requiring all outdoor programs celebrating the Bangla New Year 1433 to conclude by 6:00 PM. The order aims to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the nationwide festivities, including the traditional celebrations of the Chakma, Marma, Tripura, and Garo communities.
The decision was formalized following a high-level law and order coordination meeting chaired by Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury at the Secretariat.
Strict Security Measures for Key Venues
According to a press release signed by Public Relations Officer Faisal Hasan, the 6:00 PM deadline applies to all major venues across the country, including Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka University, Hatirjheel, and Rabindra Sarobar.
To facilitate a smooth conclusion, entry for the general public into these areas will be restricted starting at 5:00 PM.
Regulations for Mangal Shobhajatra
The ministry has also outlined specific protocols for the iconic ‘Mangal Shobhajatra’ organized by the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University:
- Mask Restrictions: Participants are prohibited from wearing masks. However, masks may be carried by hand or displayed in a way that does not cover the face.
- Entry Points: Participants must join the procession from the starting point; entry from the middle of the route will not be permitted.
Prohibited Items and Public Safety
To minimize fire hazards and public nuisance, the government has imposed a complete ban on several items nationwide:
- Prohibited: Flying lanterns (Fanush), fireworks, gas balloons, and Vuvuzelas.
- Traffic Control: Strict measures will be taken against motorcycle and car racing, particularly in the 300-feet area.
- University Access: Motor vehicles without Dhaka University stickers will be barred from the campus after 7:00 PM on April 13. Additionally, authorities have requested the closure of the TSC Metro Station on April 14 for security reasons.
Monitoring and Emergency Response
Law enforcement agencies will deploy dog squads at Ramna Batamul and Dhaka University to sweep for explosives. Watchtowers, CC cameras, and archway metal detectors will be installed at critical points.
To combat harassment, snatching, and pickpocketing, plainclothes detectives and mobile courts led by executive magistrates will be active throughout the celebrations. Fire service units, ambulances, medical teams, and divers (at Ramna Lake) will remain on standby to handle any emergencies.
Senior Secretary Manjur Morshed Chowdhury emphasized that the administration and law enforcement agencies are committed to safeguarding the cultural heritage of the Bengali people and ensuring a festive atmosphere.
