Dhaka University (Dhaka University) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niyaz Ahmed Khan has formally submitted his resignation. On Saturday (February 22), he handed over his resignation letter to Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon, citing personal and administrative reasons for stepping down, according to official sources.
The Vice-Chancellor’s protocol officer Mohammad Firoz stated that Dr. Khan submitted the letter on Sunday morning. While the Education Ministry has not officially announced the matter, sources indicated that the subsequent administrative process will proceed once the resignation is accepted.
Earlier, Dr. Khan had expressed his desire to resign in a press conference, stating:
“The emergency situation has eased, and the overall condition of the university is now stable. I now wish to step aside from my duties.”
He further added that his decision was motivated so that the political government could organize the administration as it prefers.
Regarding continuity in university administration, he said:
“To avoid any sudden vacuum and to ensure a smooth transition, I am willing to continue temporarily if required by the government or concerned authorities. However, I request to be relieved from deputation and allowed to return to my primary role as a faculty member as soon as possible.”
Dr. Khan confirmed that he is ready to cooperate with the government in any way needed during the handover process.
