Student Seats Increased to 150 in Parliament Gallery to Boost Civic Learning

The number of seats allocated for students in the visitor gallery of the National Parliament has been increased to 150, up from the previous 50 seats reserved for children under 12.

The expansion follows a request by Education and Primary Education Adviser Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, which was later approved by the Speaker. The Ministry of Education confirmed the development on Friday.

Officials say the move will allow more students to directly observe parliamentary proceedings, helping them develop an early understanding of democratic practices and legislative processes.

Highlighting the importance of such exposure, the education adviser noted that former President Ziaur Rahman had introduced similar initiatives to provide students with real-life learning experiences, stressing the need to make the younger generation more aware of state affairs and politics.

Parliament Secretary Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan added that students visiting the parliament will be given an introductory briefing on its history, architecture, and functions before sessions begin, enhancing their educational experience.
