A candidate was detained and expelled during the 2025–26 academic session ‘A’ Unit admission test of cluster universities for attempting to match answers using artificial intelligence (AI). The incident took place on Friday (April 10) at the Noakhali Government College exam center.
The expelled candidate was identified as Md. Hizbullah Islam Abhi.
According to the admission test committee, the exam began at 11:00 AM, and shortly after, an invigilator grew suspicious of the candidate’s behavior. Upon conducting a search, a mobile phone was recovered from him. Further investigation revealed that he was attempting to find answers using Google Gemini. He was then taken to the control room and immediately expelled from the exam hall.
The university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rezwanul Haque, stated:
“No form of unfair means will be tolerated in the examination.”
“Strict monitoring has been ensured to maintain a fair and cheating-free environment.”
Meanwhile, the ‘A’ Unit admission test was held simultaneously at seven centers, including Noakhali Science and Technology University. Out of 10,797 candidates, a total of 7,801 were present, resulting in an attendance rate of 72.25%.
During the examination, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail and other officials visited different centers. Authorities confirmed that the exam was conducted in an overall peaceful environment.
