Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election has once again stirred controversy, as the Protirodh Parshad panel expressed deep concern over irregularities and the role of the administration.
At a press conference held at Madhur Canteen on Tuesday afternoon, General Secretary candidate Meghmallar Bosu stated that if the voting process appears to be a “scam,” the panel may withdraw from the election altogether.
“We are still engaged in the electoral process and continuing our campaign. But if we realize that the whole matter of voting is a scam and the university administration has no backbone, then we may not remain in the election,” Bosu said.
Allegations of Code Violations
Bosu ridiculed the DUCSU election code of conduct, calling it “a joke.” According to him, except for Protirodh Parshad, no other panel has respected the electoral guidelines.
“We have seen candidates entering reading rooms, and many seeking votes in the name of prayers while fully campaigning. Despite repeated complaints, no steps have been taken against such violations,” he alleged.
Vote-Buying Accusations
The GS candidate also pointed to widespread attempts at voter manipulation through food and cash:
“In the past seven days, just notice how much feasting has taken place. After the meals, the candidate does not pay, rather someone accompanying him pays. This is a kind of bribery targeting first- and second-year students to win votes.”
Timing of the Election Questioned
Bosu criticized the timing of the election, arguing that it was deliberately scheduled during ongoing departmental exams:
“At such a time, students cannot focus on DUCSU. Even when candidates present their manifesto, students do not have the time to listen,” he remarked.
Other members of the Protirodh Parshad panel were also present at the press conference, echoing similar concerns over fairness and transparency.
