The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has decided not to include the heroic story of Shahid Sharif Osman Bin Hadi in the 2027 academic year textbooks, according to sources.
The decision was taken at a recent high-level meeting of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board, where the matter was reportedly not included in the final agenda for discussion.
Primary-Level Books Already Finalized
Officials said that editing work for primary-level textbooks for the 2027 academic year has already been completed.
Professor Dr. Md. Iqbal Haider, a member of the Primary Education Curriculum Wing of NCTB, confirmed that Osman Hadi’s story will not be included in the Grade Five “Bangladesh and World Studies” textbook for 2027.
He added that whether the content will be included in the 2028 curriculum will be decided later by relevant subject committees.
Major Curriculum Changes Planned in 2028
NCTB officials also indicated that a major overhaul of the primary curriculum is planned from 2028, during which decisions on adding or removing content will be reviewed more broadly.
Currently, editing work for 36 textbooks from Grade 1 to 5 has been completed, while work on two new Grade Four books is expected to be finished by August 10.
Other Changes in 2027 Textbooks
Several other revisions have been finalized for the 2027 curriculum:
- In Grade 9–10 Bangla literature, new lessons will include writings of former President Ziaur Rahman, including “A Nation’s Birth” and “Memories of the Liberation War.”
- In Grade Five “Bangladesh and World Studies,” biographies of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia will be added alongside existing national leaders.
- There is also a preliminary plan to include Osman Hadi in the 2028 Grade Five chapter “We Will Never Forget You,” alongside figures such as Titumir, Pritilata Waddedar, Nur Hossain, Abu Sayeed, and Mughdho. However, officials said final decisions will rest with subject-based curriculum committees.
The developments come as Bangladesh continues to revise its national curriculum ahead of the upcoming academic years.
