The session, titled “Broad-Based Innovation,” began on Wednesday morning at the Dalian International Conference Center. It was inaugurated by WEF President and CEO Børge Brende.

Leaders from Multiple Countries in Attendance

Alongside the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, several global leaders joined the session, including the prime ministers of China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Montenegro, and Guinea.

The participation highlighted growing international engagement on innovation-driven economic development and global cooperation.

First Major Global Forum Appearance as Prime Minister

According to the Prime Minister’s Press Office, this marks Tarique Rahman’s first participation in an international forum abroad since assuming office as head of government.

He arrived in Dalian on Monday from Malaysia and later held a courtesy meeting with WEF leadership, where discussions focused on investment opportunities and employment generation.

Climate and Economic Priorities Highlighted

On Tuesday evening, the Prime Minister delivered a speech at a WEF session titled “Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape.”

He urged developed nations to accelerate the release of pledged climate funds.

“Climate action is not a cost; it is an investment in prosperity, stability, and the future of generations,” he said.

Diplomatic Engagements and Upcoming Visit to Beijing

The Prime Minister also attended a dinner hosted by Chinese Premier Li Qiang in honour of participating heads of government.

Following the plenary session, he is scheduled to travel from Dalian to Beijing by high-speed train at around 2:00 pm local time for further engagements.

The WEF “New Champions” meeting—often referred to as Summer Davos—continues to serve as a key platform for global leaders to discuss innovation, economic transformation, and sustainable development.
