The Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has warned that no one involved in the attack on a doctor at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital will be spared, saying that strict legal action is underway.
He made the remarks on Saturday (16 May) night while visiting injured doctor Dr. Nasir, who is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
“No Political or Personal Consideration”
Speaking to journalists, the minister said that the government will not show leniency to any attacker, regardless of political affiliation or identity.
“The Honourable Prime Minister has given clear instructions that no offender should be spared under any circumstances,” he said.
He also confirmed that two suspects, including the main accused, have already been arrested in connection with the attack.
CCTV Review and Investigation
The minister said CCTV footage from hospitals and surrounding areas is being carefully reviewed to identify all involved attackers.
He added that security threats against doctors, especially in the capital, have increased recently and authorities are taking the situation seriously.
Major Security Announcement
In a significant move, the Health Minister announced that each government hospital in the country will now have the following:
- 10 armed security personnel
- 1 platoon commander (or security in charge)
He said the decision aims to ensure the safety of doctors and prevent disruption in medical services.
Crackdown on Hospital Crime
The minister also said the government is monitoring irregularities and syndicates in hospital procurement and tender processes and warned that no criminal involved in disrupting healthcare services will be spared.
