Three young men were injured in a gas explosion in the Mirpur area of the capital after a suspected leak ignited when one of them tried to light a cigarette, officials said.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday in the Paikpara area of Mirpur, according to witnesses and local sources.
The injured have been identified as Miraj, Sujan, and Bipul. They were rescued in critical condition and admitted to the emergency department of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Doctors said the victims suffered varying degrees of burn injuries. Resident physician Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman stated that Miraj sustained burns on 15 percent of his body, Sujan 24 percent, and Bipul 10 percent. All three are currently undergoing treatment.
Hospital sources confirmed that their condition is being closely monitored.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident earlier the same day in Uttarkhan, three more people suffered burn injuries in another gas leak-related explosion. They were also admitted to the same burn institute for treatment.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the Mirpur explosion, but investigations are ongoing.
