Father Arrested for Kidnapping Own Son, Demanding Ransom from Wife in Chuadanga

Police have arrested Md. Azizul (28), along with his accomplice, Md. Akhtar (26), in Jibannagar Upazila, Chuadanga, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping his own son, Siam, and demanding ransom from his wife.

Azizul, a resident of Kalaroa Upazila in Satkhira, had been living with his in-laws in the Abdulbaria area of Jibannagar as a gharjamai (live-in son-in-law). His wife works in India, while he remains unemployed in Bangladesh. Police say that after repeatedly demanding money from his wife and being refused, Azizul planned to kidnap his own child.

On Tuesday, March 17, around 5:30 pm, Azizul and Akhtar abducted Siam and took him to a secluded garden, where they tied the child’s hands and held a sharp sickle to his neck, taking photographs. They sent the images to the child’s mother, demanding 50,000 BDT as ransom, threatening to kill the child if she failed to pay. Terrified, the mother initially sent 10,300 BDT via bKash and then sought police assistance.

OC of Jibannagar Police, Solaiman Sheikh, said that following a complaint, a joint operation was conducted under the supervision of Chuadanga District Police Superintendent Md. Ruhul Kabir Khan. Using technology, police tracked the kidnappers to Pakka Daspara in Jibannagar and arrested them around 9:30 pm, rescuing Siam unharmed. Authorities also recovered 7,000 BDT of the ransom and the sickle used in the crime.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects confessed to the crime. Legal proceedings are underway, and further investigation continues.
