Handcuffed Accused Snatched After Machete Attack on Police in Bagerhat

In Kachua Upazila of Bagerhat, a handcuffed accused was forcibly taken from police custody after a machete attack on a police officer on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 3:00 pm in Khalishakhali village of Moghia Union, leaving Police Constable Raju Khan seriously injured. He was initially taken to Kachua Upazila Health Complex, and when his condition worsened, he was referred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to police, a seven-member team, led by SI Anichur Rahman and ASI Imdadul Islam, conducted a raid to arrest Nadim Sheikh (33), who is wanted in multiple cases. After arresting Nadim and placing him in handcuffs, his younger brother, Sagar Sheikh, suddenly attacked the police with a sharp weapon (machete).

During the attack, Constable Raju Khan’s right hand was seriously injured, and Nadim Sheikh—still in handcuffs—escaped along with his brother.

The incident has caused tension and fear in the area.

Officer-in-Charge of Kachua Police Station, Md. Shafiqul Rahman, confirmed the incident and stated:

“A special operation is ongoing to apprehend the fugitives and recover the weapon used. Strict legal action will be taken against those who attacked police personnel.”
