Election Commission of Bangladesh Publishes Gazette of 297 Newly Elected MPs

The Election Commission of Bangladesh has published the official gazette of 297 newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The gazette was issued late Friday night (February 13) after approval by the Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin. The document was signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Although voting was held in 299 constituencies, the gazette covers 297 seats. According to court directives, results for two constituencies in Chattogram will be announced later. Meanwhile, polling in Sherpur-3 remains suspended following the death of a Jamaat candidate.

The EC secretary said the official gazette was published after verification of unofficial results. Newly elected MPs are scheduled to take oath within three days of the gazette publication.

A record 51 political parties contested the election, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizens Party (NCP).

A total of 2,029 candidates ran in the election — 1,755 party nominees and 274 independents, including 80 female candidates. The EC allocated 119 election symbols.

Voter turnout in the parliamentary election stood at 59.44 percent, while turnout in the referendum reached 60.26 percent.

According to official results, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party won 212 seats, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami secured 77 seats, and the National Citizens Party obtained 7 seats, with independents and other parties winning the remaining seats.
