A voter turnout of 32.88% was recorded across 32,789 polling centers during the first four and a half hours of the 13th National Parliament Election on Thursday.
Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed shared this information during a press briefing at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters in Agargaon this afternoon.
Key Highlights of the Briefing:
- Turnout Data: As of 12:00 PM, the average turnout reached 32.88% in approximately 77% of the total polling centers nationwide.
- Voting Status: Voting is currently underway at 42,651 centers across 299 constituencies.
- Smooth Process: According to the Senior Secretary, no polling centers have reported a suspension of voting so far, and the process remains largely peaceful across the country.
Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed noted that voters began forming long queues early in the morning, reflecting high anticipation for this historic election. This election marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, being the first general election held since the political transition in August 2024.
Earlier today, prominent figures including interim Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman cast their ballots in the capital, describing the day as a critical moment for the nation’s democratic future.
Voting, which began at 7:30 AM, is scheduled to continue until 4:30 PM without any break. The Election Commission is also conducting a simultaneous referendum on the National Charter 2025.
