Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged gang rape of a housewife in Sunamganj district. The incident reportedly took place late Friday night (April 10), while the arrests were made around 9:00 PM on Sunday (April 12) during a special operation.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Moksed Ali (45) and Yasin Mia (32), both residents of Lalpur village under Gaurarang Union in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred at approximately 12:00 AM on Friday night in a cluster village in Lalpur. The victim was alone at her residence at the time. The two accused allegedly entered her home under the pretext of looking for her husband and subsequently forcibly assaulted and raped her.
Following the incident, locals rescued the victim in a serious physical condition and admitted her to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have stated that her condition remains critical, and she has been placed under close observation.
Police launched an operation immediately after the incident. A special team led by Sub-Inspector Farid conducted a raid on Sunday night, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.
Confirming the arrests, the Investigation Officer-in-Charge of Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Arif Ullah, said:
“Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s husband, we have arrested two accused individuals.”
“Legal proceedings against the arrested persons are currently underway.”
