DHAKA – In a touching display of civic duty, 99-year-old Jamirun Nesa cast her vote today in the capital’s Khilgaon area, overcoming the physical frailty that comes with her advanced age.
Assisted by her granddaughter’s daughter, Zobaida Hoque, the elderly voter arrived at the Khilgaon Model College polling center with slow, deliberate steps.
Family members shared that Jamirun Nesa was eager to participate in the democratic process, driven by the excitement of voting after a long hiatus. According to Zobaida Hoque, while the official voter slip lists her age as 99, Jamirun Nesa is actually over 100 years old.
“She hasn’t been able to vote for the past few years, so she was incredibly excited to come today,” said Zobaida Hoque. “Although the slip says 99, she is truly over 100.”
Despite the physical challenges, her determination highlighted the deep-rooted enthusiasm among voters in this election cycle.
