17 injured in clashes at 4 polling stations in Meherpur

At least 16 Jamaat-e-Islami workers and one BNP supporter were injured in separate attacks and clashes at four polling centres across two constituencies in Meherpur during the 13th National Parliament election. Police have arrested one individual in connection with the incidents.

Confirming the situation, Meherpur Superintendent of Police Ujjal Kumar Roy said, “Law enforcement personnel brought the situation under control. Voting is continuing smoothly, and legal action regarding the clashes is underway.”

Local sources reported that at Saharbati Government Primary School in Gangni, Meherpur-2, a clash broke out between BNP and Jamaat workers as voters were being blocked from entering the centre. Ten Jamaat supporters were injured, six of whom were admitted to Meherpur General Hospital.

At the Chatian centre in Gangni, another clash occurred between Jamaat and BNP workers over allegations of blocking voters. Four Jamaat supporters were injured, three of whom were taken to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.

Around 10:30 a.m., a BNP supporter was injured in a separate clash in Khasmahal village of Gangni.

Meanwhile, at Chandpur Government Primary School in Meherpur-1, two Jamaat supporters were reportedly attacked by BNP workers while returning home after voting. One BNP supporter was arrested in connection with the incident.
