Bangladesh have etched their name in history by becoming the champions of the inaugural SAFF Women’s Futsal Championship. In a clinical display of skill and dominance, the Bengal Tigresses thrashed Maldives 14-2 in their final match at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
The victory crowns an exceptional, unbeaten campaign for Bangladesh, who finished at the top of the seven-team table with 16 points from six matches, including five wins and a draw.
A Masterclass by Sabina Khatun
Captain Sabina Khatun once again proved why she is the backbone of Bangladesh’s footballing success. She led the charge with a four-goal haul, finishing the tournament as the highest goal-scorer with a total of 14 goals.
The match, however, began with a brief scare. Maldives took an unexpected lead in the fourth minute when Masura Parvin accidentally turned the ball into her own net. The setback was short-lived as Sabina Khatun equalized just two minutes later. From that point on, Bangladesh turned the game into a one-sided affair, heading into the halftime break with a commanding 6-1 lead.
Goal Fest in Bangkok
The second half saw no respite for the Maldivian side as Bangladesh continued their relentless attack.
- Lipi Akhter netted a brilliant hat-trick.
- Krisna Rani Sarkar contributed with a brace.
- Individual goals were scored by Nouson Jahan, Sumaya Matsushima, Nilufa Yeasmin Nila, Mehenur Akhter, and Masura Parvin (who made amends for her earlier own goal).
Maldives’ Mariyam Noora managed to score a consolation goal in the second half, but it was far from enough to stop the Bangladeshi juggernaut.
Tournament Standings
Bangladesh’s 16-point finish put them comfortably out of reach for second-placed Bhutan. Even if Bhutan wins their final match against Nepal, they can only reach a maximum of 14 points.

The squad, largely comprised of players from the national football team, has now added a futsal trophy to their growing cabinet of South Asian honors. This triumph marks the third major SAFF title secured under the leadership of Sabina Khatun.
