Emon Syed Announces Withdrawal from National Citizen Party

Emon Syed

Emon Syed, a central figure in the National Citizen Party (NCP), has officially announced his withdrawal from all organizational activities of the party.

In a public statement issued on Sunday, he confirmed his decision to step away from his prominent roles as the Central Joint Chief Organizer and the Supervisor of the Hill Tracts region.

The announcement, which Emon Syed noted was a decision made earlier but only now made public, marks a significant shift in the NCP’s leadership structure.

A Key Figure in Party Growth

Emon Syed has been a pivotal member of the NCP, particularly in its expansion efforts following the July Uprising. As the Supervisor of the Hill Tracts, he played a crucial role in organizing the party’s “anti-discrimination march” across Chattogram, Bandarban, and Rangamati in mid-2025.

During his tenure, he was a vocal advocate for transparency, famously urging the public and the media to report any instances of extortion or misconduct carried out in the party’s name.

Tensions and Transitions

While the official statement did not specify the exact reason for his departure, the move comes during a period of internal transition for the NCP. Late last year, Emon Syed was among a group of 30 senior leaders who formally voiced objections to a potential electoral alliance between the NCP and Jamaat-e-Islami, citing concerns over party ideology and public trust.

Current Status

His resignation follows that of several other high-profile members in recent months, leading to speculation regarding the party’s future direction as the 2026 national elections approach.

With this withdrawal, Emon Syed ceases all formal association with the NCP’s central and regional administrative bodies. The party leadership has yet to issue an official comment on his departure.
