Amid nationwide outrage over the brutal murder of a scrap dealer in Old Dhaka for ‘not donating,’ a terrorist attack on a business establishment in Pallabi, the capital, has taken place for the same reason. The attack took place at around 5 pm on Friday at AK Builders, a housing construction company in Pallabi’s Albdirtek area.
Officials of the organization said that a group of people came with weapons and attacked them after they did not receive a ransom of ‘five crore’ taka. Police said that the attackers fired four shots at the time. An official of the organization named Shariful Islam was injured in the firing by the miscreants. He has been admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital.
AK Builders Chairman, Md. Qayum Ali Khan. His son Amimul Ehsan said that three weeks ago, a man named Jamil demanded five crore taka from his father. When the money was not paid, the terrorists attacked their establishment in two phases and took many things, including CCTV cameras. He said that 30 to 40 terrorists came and attacked their establishment yesterday. They also opened fire at the time. One person was injured in the firing.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Islam said that no case has been filed yet in the shooting incident. No one has been arrested. Efforts are being made to investigate the incident seriously and arrest the people involved.
According to relevant sources, AK Builders Chairman Qayum Ali Khan filed a general diary (GD) with Pallabi Police Station last Thursday regarding the extortion demand and attack.
In the GD, he alleged that his business establishment was attacked for the first time on June 27. Then, on July 4, unknown individuals attacked him again. They are intimidating and threatening to kill him. After these incidents, the establishment was attacked again yesterday.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, a group of people brutally murdered a scrap dealer in public on a busy road in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital in Old Dhaka.
The family says that Lal Chand, alias Sohag (39), was killed in this way because he refused to pay a monthly extortion of two lakh taka. Investigators in the case and local sources also say that extortion was the main reason behind the murder.
