Police have arrested a madrasa teacher in Cox’s Bazar on charges of abducting a 10-year-old child from Lohagara, Chattogram, and then confining and raping the child in a residential hotel. The arrest was made early Saturday morning during a raid on a hotel in Chakaria Municipality, Cox’s Bazar, conducted by Lohagara police.
The arrested teacher has been identified as Belal Uddin, son of Nurul Alam from Shilkhali Sabujpara area of Barbakia Union in Pekua Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Belal was a teacher at a madrasa in Lohagara Upazila, where the victim was also a student.
According to police, Belal Uddin abducted the child from the madrasa on Friday afternoon and took the child to a residential hotel in Chakaria Municipality. There, he allegedly confined and raped the child, also threatening to kill the child if the incident was revealed to anyone. The victim’s father filed a case with Lohagara Police Station on Saturday afternoon.
When contacted, Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman told Prothom Alo that preliminary police investigation revealed that teacher Belal Uddin had raped the child multiple times even before this abduction. He confirmed that a case has been filed in connection with the incident.
