14-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped in Pirojpur; 60-Year-Old Man Arrested

A 60-year-old day labourer was arrested on Friday for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl in the Muktarkathi area of Pirojpur Sadar municipality.

The accused, identified as Abdul Gani Shikdar, is a resident of the same area and the son of the late Sekendar Ali Shikdar.

The Incident

According to local sources and police reports, the incident occurred around 6:30 AM on Friday (June 5). The victim, a 14-year-old girl, had gone to the banks of the Baleshwar River near her home to collect Bakul flowers.

Police stated that Abdul Gani Shikdar allegedly lured the teenager into his vacant house under a false pretext. Once inside, he reportedly held her at knifepoint or through intimidation and committed the assault.

The girl’s screams for help eventually alerted neighbours, who rushed to the scene, rescued the victim, and detained the suspect until authorities arrived.

Family’s Account

The victim’s mother expressed her horror at the premeditated nature of the crime. She alleged that the suspect had been lying in wait for her daughter near the riverbank.

“My daughter went to the riverbank near our house to pick flowers. He had been waiting there with a premeditated plan and lured her into his empty house to rape her.”

She further added that when she arrived at the scene after hearing the news, the suspect attempted to threaten and intimidate her as well.

Legal Action

Following the rescue, the victim’s mother filed a case with the Pirojpur Sadar Police Station accusing Abdul Gani Shikdar of rape.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirojpur Sadar Police Station, Shariful Islam, confirmed the details of the arrest:

“Upon receiving the information, a police team immediately went to the scene and rescued the victim. We detained the accused on the spot and brought him to the station.”
