National Citizen Party (NCP) central leader and Member of Parliament Hasnat Abdullah has strongly criticized the Home Minister, questioning his role amid a recent surge in violence in Meghna Upazila of Comilla, where four murders were reported within three to four months.
He made the remarks while speaking at a political rally and joining programme in Meghna Upazila, alleging a severe deterioration of law and order in the area and across the country.
Sharp Criticism Over Law and Order
Abdullah questioned the Home Minister’s performance, saying:
“If four murders take place in a single Upazila within four months, what is the Home Minister actually doing?”
He further alleged that the minister is neglecting his core responsibilities and instead engaging in matters outside his jurisdiction.
“He occasionally speaks on behalf of the Prime Minister or the Finance Minister, but he has no concern for his own Ministry of Home Affairs,” Abdullah added.
Key Allegations Raised
- Culture of Impunity: Abdullah said victims’ families are being denied justice, with ongoing delays in legal proceedings.
- Neglect of Duty: He accused the Home Minister of failing to properly manage the internal security situation.
- Eroding Public Trust: He warned that continued deterioration in law and order could severely damage public confidence in the government.
Call for Action
The lawmaker urged immediate steps to strengthen accountability within law enforcement agencies and ensure swift justice for victims’ families affected by recent violence.
