A tragic and shocking incident has left residents in deep mourning after a father allegedly killed his two-month-old daughter over a minor domestic issue.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning (April 14) in the Chariya–Muradpur area under Mirzapur Union of Hathazari Upazila. The deceased, Sabrina Jannat Mahira, was the daughter of Osman Gani and Sumaiya Akter.
According to police sources, the incident took place between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM, when Osman Gani asked his wife to prepare tea. While she was getting ready to serve it, their infant daughter was in her arms. At one point, Osman allegedly snatched the child from her mother and slammed her onto the ground twice, leaving the baby unconscious.
The critically injured child was quickly taken to Hathazari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Sub-Inspector Habib of Hathazari Model Police Station confirmed the matter around 2:00 PM, stating:
“In the morning, Osman Gani asked his wife for tea. While she was preparing it, he suddenly took the child from her lap and slammed her on the ground twice. The child became unconscious and was later declared dead at the hospital.”.
Following the incident, police visited the scene and took necessary steps. Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mostak Ahmed Chowdhury said:
“Upon receiving the news, police immediately rushed to the scene. The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy, and legal procedures are ongoing.”
Police also confirmed that the accused father could not be arrested immediately after the incident. However, in connection with the case, the victim’s uncle, Roman, has been detained.
The brutal incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area, with locals expressing shock and sorrow. Neighbors said such a horrific ঘটনা was beyond imagination.
Concerned individuals have emphasized the urgent need for greater social awareness and mental health support to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
