A horrifying incident has shaken Gazipur’s Kapasia upazila after five members of the same family, including a mother and her three children, were found brutally murdered with their throats slit early Saturday morning.
The victims were identified as Sharmin (30), wife of fugitive suspect Forqan Mia, their daughters Mim (15) and Maria (8), their two-year-old son Farid, and Sharmin’s younger brother Rasul Mia (22).
Police recovered the bloodstained bodies from a rented house in Rautkona village under Kapasia Sadar Union. The gruesome killings have triggered fear and mourning throughout the area.
According to police and local sources, the family had been living on the ground floor of a house owned by expatriate Monir Hossain. Sharmin’s husband, Forqan Mia, worked as a private car driver and originally hailed from Gopalganj Sadar.
Investigators believe the murders took place sometime on Friday night.
Locals discovered the bodies Saturday morning and immediately informed police.
Witnesses described a horrifying scene inside the house. The bodies of the three children were found lying side by side on the floor with their throats slit. Rasul Mia’s body was found on a bed, while Sharmin’s body was discovered near a window with her hands and mouth tied.
Confirming the incident, Gazipur Superintendent of Police Md. Sharif Uddin said:
“Five members of the same family have been brutally murdered. Police are working to uncover the motive behind the killings. Details will emerge after the investigation.”
Kapasia Police Station Investigation Officer Zubair Hossain said police suspect family conflict may have led to the massacre.
“Our primary assumption is that Sharmin’s husband, Forqan Mia, carried out the killings following a family dispute and then fled the scene,” he said.
Police said Forqan Mia has been missing since the incident and multiple teams have already launched operations to arrest him.
The bodies are being sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur for autopsy. Police are also preparing a murder case in connection with the incident.
