A Dhaka court has ordered a one-day jail gate interrogation of former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, in a money laundering case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The order was issued on Monday (April 20) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Sabbir Foyez, following a petition submitted by the ACC. Assistant Director Al-Amin, on behalf of the commission, sought permission to interrogate the detained accused in the interest of a proper investigation.

The case was filed on December 12, 2024, by ACC Deputy Director Mostafizur Rahman at the Commission’s Integrated Dhaka District Office-1. The charges were brought under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, Sections 4(2) and 4(3) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

According to the case statement, Palak allegedly acquired immovable and movable assets worth Tk 8.73 crore through illegal means, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.

The complaint further states that he conducted suspicious financial transactions through 25 bank accounts, depositing a total of Tk 32.04 crore and withdrawing Tk 29.84 crore, allegedly involving bribery and corruption, thereby committing the offense of money laundering.
