A 30-year-old drug-addicted man, Rasel, set fire to his house in Talebnagar Residential Project, Ward-1, Galachipa, after his wife, Refena, refused to give him money for drugs. He then locked the house from the outside and fled the area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon around 5:30 pm. Locals reported seeing flames rising from the house, prompting them to alert the fire service. Two fire service units arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control after nearly an hour.
Md. Kamal Hossain, officer of the Galachipa Fire Service and Civil Defense Station, said that prompt action by the fire service prevented further damage.
Rasel had been living in the residential barrack with his family for a long time, and tensions rose when his wife, engaged in household work, refused to give him money for drugs. The blaze caused panic in the neighbourhood, but authorities reported no casualties.
