In an effort to support the government’s ongoing electricity and fuel-saving initiatives, the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association has decided that all shops and shopping malls across the country, including Dhaka, will close by 8 PM. The announcement was made on Thursday (April 2) through an official press release.
According to the notice, the decision was taken during a joint meeting of the standing committees of the Bangladesh Shop Owners’ Association and the Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners’ Association. The meeting cited the international energy crisis as a reason for the move, stating that it is intended to help the government conserve electricity and fuel.
The release also clarified exceptions:
“Hotels, pharmacies, stores providing essential services, and local markets (kacha bazars) are exempt from this closure.”
This initiative is part of a nationwide effort to reduce energy consumption amid growing concerns over electricity and fuel demand.
