The interim government has appointed Professor Ali Riaz, the Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, as the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, with the rank and status of an Adviser.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday, November 13.
The gazette notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid, states that the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has appointed Professor Ali Riaz as his Special Assistant.
The notification further states that while holding the post of Special Assistant, Professor Riaz will be entitled to the rank, salary, allowances, and ancillary facilities equivalent to those of an Adviser.
Background
Professor Riaz is a distinguished academic and political scientist. His appointment follows significant roles within the interim administration:
- He previously headed the Constitution Reform Commission, which was formed after the July Mass Uprising.
- Subsequently, in February, he was appointed the Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission.
His new role is expected to provide key support to the Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, in managing the government’s ongoing reform and administrative agenda.
