Savar Murderer Moshiur Rahman Khan Samrat Dies in Hospital

Moshiur Rahman Khan Samrat, who confessed to committing six murders, including five inside the abandoned Savar Municipal Community Centre, died yesterday (23 March) morning at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was 35 years old.

According to the Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Operations), Md Helal Uddin, prison authorities informed them that Samrat, held at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, experienced severe chest pain around midnight on 22 March. He was rushed to DMCH, where doctors declared him dead at 7:00 am on 23 March.

Background:
Samrat, a resident of Bank Colony in Savar, had a history of psychological problems. He was initially admitted to a mental health institute for one month before being transferred to the prison hospital.

On 19 January 2026, Samrat was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from the Savar Municipal area in connection with a double murder case. During interrogation, he confessed to all six murders, including five inside the Savar Community Centre. CCTV footage reportedly showed him carrying a body on his shoulder, which helped police track him down.

Timeline of the murders:

  • 4 July 2025: Body of an elderly woman (~75) found near a tea stall beside Savar Model Mosque. Case filed against unknown suspects.
  • 19 August 2025: Body of a man (~30) recovered from the second floor of the community centre. Case filed the same day.
  • 11 October 2025: Body of a woman (~30) found near a bathroom on the second floor of the community centre. Case filed on 13 October.
  • 19 December 2025: Body of a man (~35) found in a bathroom of the community centre. Identification not possible. Case filed the same day.
  • 19 January 2026: Bodies of a man (~25) and a girl (~13) found in a bathroom on the second floor of the community centre. Believed to have been murdered and left there.

Samrat had been shown as an accused in all these cases following his confession, bringing shock and fear to the Savar community.

This marks the end of a six-month period of terror that left the abandoned community centre infamous for multiple brutal killings.
