A severe fuel shortage is gripping the capital, with long queues forming at filling stations across Dhaka since Tuesday morning (March 24). Despite waiting in line, many customers are unable to get fuel, as most pumps now display ‘No Fuel’ signs.
At Asadgate, queues of vehicles stretched toward Zia Udyan, but fuel remained unavailable. Authorities are unable to provide a definite time for delivery from depots, forcing people to visit multiple pumps in search of fuel.
Panic buying intensifies:
Many residents are stockpiling fuel beyond their needs, anticipating the shortage will worsen in the coming days. This has further extended queues at stations.
Cause of the crisis:
During the Eid holidays, banks and depots were closed, causing temporary payment issues. Although banking services have resumed, demand has surged, depleting stocks quickly. Pump owners say supply will resume promptly once fuel arrives from depots.
The situation reflects a critical supply-demand imbalance, causing widespread inconvenience for commuters in Dhaka.
