People Return to the Capital After Eid Holidays

After spending the long Eid-ul-Fitr holidays with their families, working people have begun returning to the busy capital, Dhaka, leaving behind their village homes. From early Monday (March 23), a steady flow of inbound passengers was observed at the main entry points of the city.

Unlike previous years, the return journey has been relatively smooth, with passengers reporting less congestion and fewer difficulties. Officials said the extended Eid holidays allowed travelers to return in phases, easing pressure on major transport hubs.

At Kamalapur Railway Station and Sadarghat Launch Terminal, there was a noticeable presence of passengers, but the situation remained orderly. Travelers were able to reach their destinations without major disruptions.

Passenger movement at Kamalapur began increasing from Sunday (March 22) afternoon. The Upakul Express, arriving from Noakhali, reached Dhaka carrying around 1,000 passengers.

One passenger, Mostafizur Rahman, said:

“As offices reopen on Monday, I returned to Dhaka after celebrating Eid with my family. Train travel is much more comfortable than buses, so I prefer it.”

Another passenger, Shahjalal, said:

“I went to my village a week ago. Now I am returning to work for my livelihood.”

Meanwhile, Sadarghat Launch Terminal witnessed an increasing number of launches arriving from the southern regions since early morning. Passengers said they were happy to have spent quality time with their families during the extended holidays.

At the same time, outbound travel from Dhaka continues, even on the third day of Eid, as many people are now heading to their village homes to visit relatives after celebrating Eid in the city, aiming to avoid the peak holiday rush.
