In an unusual move to stop the theft and vandalism of campaign materials, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Noakhali-1 (Chatkhil–Sonaimuri) constituency, Principal Maulana Md. Saif Ullah, has installed CCTV cameras to guard his election banners. Photos of the initiative spread on social media, quickly drawing public attention and discussion.
Local sources say allegations of stealing and tearing down campaign banners and posters have continued in different parts of Noakhali. However, the administration has not been able to take effective action. Facing this situation, the candidate took the step on his own to ensure the safety of his publicity materials.
During a visit to the area, a CCTV camera was seen mounted above a campaign banner in front of Amirabad High School centre in Ward No. 4 of Deoti Union under Sonaimuri upazila. Supporters believe the surveillance will discourage miscreants from damaging the banners.
Saif Ullah said his campaign materials had repeatedly been stolen or torn apart. Although the authorities were informed, he did not receive an effective response, leaving him compelled to arrange security measures himself.
Mujahidul Islam, general secretary of Noakhali district north unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, told journalists that the step was taken to maintain a peaceful electoral atmosphere and allow normal campaigning.
Meanwhile, Sonaimuri Upazila UNO and Assistant Returning Officer Nasrin Akter said that any allegation related to violations of the electoral code of conduct is being treated with importance, investigated on the ground, and necessary actions are being taken.
