Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, officially inaugurated a new election office and a high-tech multimedia campaign bus in the capital’s Mirpur-10 on Thursday. The event marks a significant step in the party’s campaign for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, scheduled for February 12.
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed confidence in the upcoming polls, stating that the “keys to the country” would be handed over to those who can ensure the safety of national resources and the dignity of its citizens.
“The people of this country want a change. Jamaat-e-Islami wants the victory of the people. If Jamaat wins, all 180 million citizens of this country will be the true winners,” said the Jamaat Ameer.
Promises for a “New Journey”
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman promised that from February 13—the day after the election—Bangladesh would embark on a “new journey” toward progress and justice. He highlighted that the party’s vision is to build a society where government officials act as servants of the people rather than masters.
Addressing the youth, he reiterated the party’s stance on employment, saying, “We will not provide unemployment benefits; we will end unemployment by transforming our youth into skilled hands.”
Allegations and Constituency Appeal
During his speech, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman condemned recent attacks on party activists in Sherpur, claiming such incidents occur because some groups lack confidence in the public’s mandate.
Following the ceremony, the Ameer—who is contesting the election from the Dhaka-15 constituency—personally engaged with local residents, seeking their support for the ‘Daripalla’ (Scale) symbol. He emphasized that the residents of Dhaka-15 have the opportunity to elect not just a Member of Parliament, but a leader who represents the aspirations of the entire nation.
The “Green Bus,” a luxury Hyundai Universe Noble UXN series equipped with multimedia facilities, will be used to broadcast the party’s messages and interact with voters throughout the constituency and beyond.
