Clash Between BNP and Independent Supporters at Joypurhat Polling Centre Injures 9

Joypurhat witnessed a violent clash at a polling centre on Wednesday afternoon, February 11, leaving at least nine people injured. The incident occurred around 4:00 PM in front of the gate of Joypurhat Government College.

According to Mamun Pradhan, president of the district Chhatra Dal, independent candidate Shikha had arrived at the college polling area with hired supporters allegedly attempting to buy votes. Local residents and BNP-backed activists confronted them, leading to a clash in which several people were seriously injured and admitted to hospital.

Independent candidate Sabekun Nahar Shikha, however, claimed that she and her team were visiting the Joypurhat Degree College centre for inspection when BNP supporters attacked them. She alleged that her mobile phone was forcibly taken and that she faced harassment during the incident.

Joypurhat Sadar police station officer-in-charge confirmed the clash and said police rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
