In a move to honor the leaders of the anti-fascist movement, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially ceded the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency to Zonayed Saki, the Chief Coordinator of Ganosamhati Andolan. The decision underscores the party’s commitment to consolidating the forces that fought to restore democracy and constitutional integrity.
The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during a press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on Wednesday.
A Coalition for Constitutional Reform
The seat-sharing agreement is framed not merely as an electoral tactic, but as a symbolic gesture to the partners of the “simultaneous movement.” By supporting Zonayed Saki and other prominent alliance leaders, the BNP seeks to ensure that the voices most vocal against the previous fascist regime are represented in the upcoming 13th National Parliament.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that the consensus reached is a reflection of the shared blood and struggle of the allied parties.
“We have reached this agreement with those who stood beside us in the anti-fascist struggle. This unity is essential to ensure that the spirit of our movement is reflected in the future governance and the protection of our democratic constitution,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated.
Honoring the Vanguards of the Movement
The BNP has allocated eight seats to seven key partners of the anti-fascist struggle to ensure their presence in the next parliament. The primary allocations include:
- Zonayed Saki (Ganosamhati Andolan): Supported for Brahmanbaria-6.
- Mahmudur Rahman Manna (Nagorik Oikya): Supported for Bogra-2.
- Nurul Haq Nur (Gono Odhikar Parishad): Supported for Patuakhali-3.
- Saiful Huq (Revolutionary Workers Party): Supported for Dhaka-12.
- Mostafa Jamal Haider (Jatiya Party – Kazi Zafar): Supported for Pirojpur-1.
Ensuring Democratic Continuity
Political analysts view the support for Zonayed Saki in Brahmanbaria-6 as a crucial step in maintaining the “Anti-Fascist” bloc. By stepping aside in these constituencies, the BNP is clearing the path for these leaders to contribute to the legislative reforms and constitutional safeguards required to prevent the resurgence of autocracy.
The BNP Secretary General noted that while this list covers eight critical seats, the dialogue with other democratic partners remains open to further strengthen the national unity against fascist remnants.
