Netrokona’s carpenter-turned-viral YouTuber Ripon Mia has alleged harassment by a group of television journalists, claiming they entered his home without permission and filmed his family, including female members, during an unplanned visit.
Ripon, who first went viral in 2016 for his poetic monologues and simple rural lifestyle videos ending with his iconic “I love you,” shared a detailed Facebook post on Monday describing the incident.
“Today, Monday, a few TV journalists from Dhaka came to my house. Without anyone’s permission, they started filming my family and asked random questions from a distance with their camera. Even though female members of my family were inside the house, they entered without permission,” Ripon wrote.
He further revealed that over the years, he has faced increasing pressure and even threats, including hacking and death threats, for refusing to give interviews on television. “With your love and support, I have been able to come this far for nine long years since 2016. During this time, there is no record of me ever harming anyone,” he said.
“I have never wanted to earn money by showing my family on Facebook. If I wanted, I could have revealed the name of the TV channel. However, I never have any intention of belittling anyone. Those who have committed this despicable act should question their own conscience,” he added.
Within an hour of the post, it received more than 75,000 reactions and over 5,000 comments, with thousands of shares. Supporters flooded the comment section, urging Ripon to name the channel and calling for ethical accountability in journalism.
The incident has reignited conversations about privacy violations and unethical practices by certain sections of the media, especially toward non-celebrity public figures who gain organic fame online.
