Rumeen Farhana Faces Disruption at Shaheed Minar, Warns BNP of ‘Serious Consequences’

Barrister Rumeen Farhana, Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail–Ashuganj and part of Bijoynagar), faced disorder while attempting to lay flowers at the Shaheed Minar in the early hours of February 21, marking International Mother Language Day and Martyrs’ Day.

Speaking about the incident, she alleged that members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) attacked her supporters during the tribute ceremony.

She said,

“Some BNP members practically attacked my activists. I was pushed aside in a way that nearly caused me to fall.”

Issuing a warning to the party, she added:

“The BNP has come to power after 17 years. If they cannot control their local-level leaders and activists, the consequences will be severe.”

She further stated:

“A new BNP government has taken office. I hope they will take swift action, both as a party and as a government, against such unruly activists.”
