\A young man was killed on Wednesday night after a bomb was hurled from the Moghbazar flyover in the capital, landing directly on him in what police are describing as a deliberate act of sabotage to destabilize the country.
The victim has been identified as Siam (20), a local motor parts shop employee. The incident took place near the Muktijoddha Gali area under the flyover.
Details of the Incident
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion occurred suddenly when an unidentified individual threw a bomb from the top of the flyover. The device struck Siam on the head as he was walking below, killing him instantly.
Siam’s father, devastated by the loss, told reporters that his son was returning home after finishing work at a motor parts shop when the attack occurred.
Police Response and Investigation
Law enforcement agencies, including the Bomb Disposal Unit, rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area to collect evidence.
Md. Golam Mortuza, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatirjheel Police Station, confirmed the incident, stating that police were dispatched immediately upon receiving the news.
Md. Masood Alam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division, visited the scene to oversee the investigation. Speaking to the media, he confirmed that the impact of the bomb falling from the flyover caused Siam’s immediate death.
“Siam had come to the area to have tea. The bomb fell from the flyover directly onto his head,” said Md. Masood Alam. “We believe this act was carried out to create instability in the country. We are currently searching for those responsible for this sabotage.”
Security has been tightened in the Moghbazar and Hatirjheel areas as authorities review CCTV footage from the flyover to identify the perpetrators.
