Bangladesh Launches Online Pension Tracking System to Simplify Services for Retirees

The government has introduced an Online Pension Tracking and Management System (OPTMS) aimed at reducing long-standing delays and hassles in pension application and approval processes, State Minister for Public Administration and Food Md. Abdul Bari announced.

Under the new digital platform, pensioners will be able to submit applications online, track the progress of their cases, and manage pension-related services remotely, ensuring greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of a workshop on the Online Pension Tracking and Management System held at the Ministry of Public Administration’s conference room at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The information was later disclosed in an official press release on Wednesday.

Speaking as the chief guest, the state minister said retired government employees often face lengthy delays, procedural complexities, and repeated visits to government offices while processing their pension benefits.

“If the OPTMS is fully implemented, pensioners will be able to apply and monitor their applications from home through an online platform. This will help ensure faster pension disbursement and significantly reduce suffering,” he said.

Abdul Bari noted that expanding online public services could also serve as an effective tool for reducing corruption by minimizing the need for physical interactions and office visits.

The minister further highlighted an issue concerning pensioners who have opted for 100 percent pension commutation. Under existing regulations, if a pensioner dies before the completion of the 15-year restoration period, their family is not eligible to receive restored pension benefits.

He suggested that the policy could be reviewed to ensure fairness for affected families.

Officials believe the introduction of OPTMS marks another step toward the government’s broader digital transformation agenda, improving service delivery and making pension management more accessible and citizen-friendly.
