Bangladesh to Get China’s Support for Joining BRICS; 13 MoUs Signed in Beijing

China has assured its positive support for Bangladesh’s inclusion in the BRICS alliance during a high-level bilateral meeting between the prime ministers of both nations in Beijing on Thursday.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Bangladeshi Prime Minister’s Advisor, Mahdee Amin, confirmed that the issue of Bangladesh’s integration into BRICS was a major point of discussion.

“Our involvement with BRICS was thoroughly discussed, and China stated that they will play a positive role in supporting Bangladesh’s bid to join the alliance,” Mahdee Amin said.

BRICS is a prominent coalition of major emerging economies, originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, known for their rapid economic growth and significant influence on regional and global affairs.

13 MoUs Signed to Bolster Bilateral Ties

Alongside the geopolitical backing, Bangladesh and China scaled up their economic and strategic partnership by signing 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements span multiple critical sectors, aimed at deepening cooperation in trade, investment, and infrastructure development.

Technical Support for Teesta Mega Plan

The bilateral discussions also yielded significant progress on regional water management and infrastructure. China has committed to providing comprehensive technical support for Bangladesh’s Teesta Mega Plan.

According to officials, China will assist Bangladesh right from the planning stages and extend its technical expertise wherever required to execute the massive river management and sustainability project.
