The body of a young man named Kausar Ahmed was recovered in a hanging position from the Sagarika flyover in Chattogram early Monday, police said.
The incident occurred around 3:30 am near the BSRM depot area, where police later recovered the body from the flyover.
Kausar Ahmed was reportedly the freedom affairs secretary of the banned Chatra League unit in the Akbar Shah Thana area. He was the son of Abul Kashem from the Urkirchar area in Rauzan Upazila.
Case Filed as Unnatural Death
Police have filed an unnatural death case at Pahartali Police Station following the recovery of the body.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
Police Say No Visible Injury
Pahartali Police Station Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman said the body did not show any visible signs of injury.
“We have not found any external injury marks on the body. Primarily, it appears to be a suicide case. However, the postmortem examination has been conducted as per procedure,” he said.
He also stated that Kausar worked as a security guard at BSRM and, according to family members, had been suffering from mental stress and drug addiction for a long time.
Claims of Murder Alleged on Social Media
Following the incident, discussions and claims spread on social media suggesting that the victim was murdered and later hanged on the flyover.
However, police have dismissed these claims as rumours and propaganda, urging people not to spread unverified information.
Political Allegations
Despite the police statement, some former leaders of the banned Chatra League alleged that Kausar was abducted and killed.
Chattogram metropolitan unit leader Talukder Parvez Ansari claimed:
“BNP-Jamaat activists abducted and killed him for being involved in Chatra League politics and later hanged his body on the flyover.”
Tension in the Area
The incident has created tension in the surrounding area, while police say further investigation is ongoing, and the body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
