Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended heartfelt greetings to the ethnic communities living in the hill tracts on the occasion of their traditional festivals—Biju, Sangrai, Baisu, Changkran, Bishu, and Changlan.
In a message issued on Saturday, the Prime Minister also conveyed warm wishes for the Bangla New Year, which coincides with these celebrations during Chaitra Sankranti.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to all ethnic communities on the occasion of their traditional festivals—Biju, Sangrai, Bishu, Baisu, Changkran, and Changlan. At the same time, I convey my heartfelt greetings on the Bangla New Year,” he said.
The Prime Minister emphasized that festivals of all communities—regardless of religion, ethnicity, or geographical location—are part of the nation’s collective celebration.
“The religious and social festivals of all communities, whether in the hills or plains, are an integral part of our national life. These উৎসব bring peace and joy to our society,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of ethnic heritage, he noted that the traditions, culture, and history of hill communities are an inseparable part of Bangladesh’s national identity, enriching its diversity and beauty.
“The traditions, culture, and history of the ethnic communities in the hill regions are an integral part of our national heritage, making it more glorious, rich, and vibrant,” the Prime Minister said.
He further underlined the country’s strong commitment to communal harmony and equal rights, stating that Bangladesh’s unity adds a unique dimension to its global reputation.
“We are firmly committed to ensuring equal progress, development, security, and constitutional rights for all citizens, including small ethnic communities,” he said.
Reaffirming equality, he added that every citizen—whether living in the hills or plains—has equal rights.
The Prime Minister expressed hope that these traditional festivals and the Bangla New Year will bring lasting peace, happiness, and harmony to all.
