Government Suspends Interest-Free Car Loans and Foreign Trainings for Officials to Cut Expenses

The government has suspended interest-free loans for purchasing cars for officials and halted all foreign trainings funded by the government until further notice. The decision was announced in a press release by the Cabinet Division following the fourth cabinet meeting on Thursday (April 2).

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman at the Cabinet Room of the National Parliament Secretariat, took the measures as part of efforts to reduce government operational expenses.

The press release stated:

  • Interest-free car loans for officials and government-funded foreign trainings will remain suspended until further instructions.
  • Internal training costs must be reduced by 50%.
  • Hospitality expenses for meetings/seminars should be cut by 50%.
  • Seminar/conference expenses are to be reduced by 20%, and travel expenses by 30%.

The move is part of a broader plan to ensure efficient utilization of government funds and streamline official expenditures.
