Dhaka University (DU) student, Saidul Amin Simanto (25), from the Department of Chemistry, was found dead in a Hazaribagh apartment late Thursday night. Family members reported that a toxic substance odour was coming from his mouth.
He was discovered unconscious around 1:30 am and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead.
Saidul had been living in a mess on the ground floor of a five-story house on Moneshwar Road, Hazaribagh. His family hails from Monohardi Upazila in Narsingdi. His father, Sadarul Amin, works in a bank. Saidul was the eldest among one brother and one sister.
According to his uncle, Ruhul Amin, the family learned that Saidul had consumed some toxic substance the previous night.
Ruhul Amin described the incident:
“The door of the room where Saidul stayed was bolted from inside. His roommate returned and knocked, but receiving no response, he informed the landlord. Later, the landlord and others broke the door and found Saidul unconscious.”
He was taken to DMCH around 1:15 am, where doctors confirmed his death.
DMCH Hospital Police Camp Inspector, Md. Faruk said the body has been kept in the hospital morgue, and the matter has been reported to Hazaribagh Police Station.
