Govt Declares March 18 Holiday, Extends Eid Vacation to 7 Days

The government has declared March 18 a public holiday by executive order to ensure a smooth journey for people travelling home during Eid. As a result, government employees will enjoy a continuous seven-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday from March 17 to March 23.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday (March 5) held at the Secretariat and chaired by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman.

After the meeting, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj confirmed the matter to journalists.

“We have decided to declare March 18 (Wednesday) a holiday ahead of Eid to facilitate the movement of people travelling to their homes,” he said.
