Bangladesh to Send Officials to Thailand for English Training

The Ministry of Public Administration has taken a project to send senior government officials to Thailand to improve their English language skills.

According to sources, around 350 officials, from deputy secretary to senior secretary level, will be sent to a specialized agricultural university in Thailand for training. The initiative has been taken due to low participation in domestic training programs.

The project will be implemented by the BIAM Foundation and is expected to be placed for approval at the first ECNEC meeting of the BNP-led government.

However, the initiative has drawn criticism amid the ongoing economic challenges. Experts have questioned the necessity of sending high-ranking officials abroad for basic language training.

Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, said:

“If a secretary thinks they need to go to Thailand to learn English, then they are not qualified to be a secretary.”
