Police have arrested a former Union Parishad (UP) member in connection with the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl in Madarganj Upazila of Jamalpur.
The accused, Masudur Rahman Masud (45), was arrested on Wednesday afternoon from the Bir Saguna area of Ghosherpara Union in Melandah upazila, police said. He is a former UP member of Karichara Union.
According to police and local sources, the incident reportedly took place last Saturday afternoon when the child was alone at home. Taking advantage of the situation, the आरोपी—who is a neighbour—allegedly assaulted the girl and threatened her with harm if she disclosed the incident.
Later, the child informed her mother, who filed a written complaint with Madarganj Model Police Station on Saturday night. Acting on the complaint, police conducted a raid and arrested the accused at a relative’s house.
Officer-in-Charge Khandakar Shaker Ahmed confirmed the arrest and said:
“The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the Jamalpur court on Thursday.”
Police said further legal proceedings are underway.
